Around The Core
For this project we were given 5 weeks to create an Accessory Dwelling Unit (A.D.U.). For this project, we were assigned a precedent to study, and I chose the manufactured home. It is known for being built off-site in a factory, constructed in sections, and designed to fit onto a truck bed for transportation. I applied the idea of modular construction and off-site fabrication to enhance affordability and personalization. Inspired by the Capsule Tower, I developed a strong central core to support modular “pods” that house circulation and programmatic elements. This approach allows for flexibility in design, enabling users to customize their living spaces while maintaining an efficient and cost-effective construction process. For my idea I used the breaking of the pieces and off-site build for affordablity and the personalization of the building. I used inspiration from the Capsule Tower to create a strong core tower to hold the other “Mods’’ of circulation and program.
